KENT STATE STUDENTS STUDY SUSTAINABLE GARDENING FOR POVERTY REDUCTION IN MEXICO

ӰƵ partnered with Universidad Panamericana in Mexico City for an international cross-cultural exchange for students to focus on studying how immigrant populations are aided by sustainable gardening projects.  The program enabled 11 ӰƵ students from the Stark and Kent campuses to spend their spring break in Mexico, and a group of 11 students from Universidad Panamericana (UP) to spend a week in Northeast Ohio in June, working at Shanti Community Farms in Akron’s North Hill neighborhood, which is home to large groups of immigrants.  Sarah Schmidt, assista...

UAV Flight propels fuel cell research

ӰƵ’s College of Aeronautics and Engineering (CAE) developed an innovative hybrid fuel cell capacitor that prolongs the flight time of unmanned aircraft vehicles (UAVs), the first hybrid fuel cell battery capacitor specifically developed for commercial UAVs. The project team, led by Yanhai Du, Ph.D., professor in ӰƵ’s CAE and principal investigator at ӰƵ’s Fuel Cell Research Lab, developed a lightweight-high-energy-density onboard power source that enables vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) type aircraft to potentially increase fli...
