ӰƵ alumnus Mike Bowen, '03, visited ӰƵ’s School of Emerging Media and Technology to share his knowledge about data and analysis that he uses as part of his job of Principal Quantitative User Researcher for music streaming service Spotify.
First Star ӰƵ Academy Continues to Shine in a Mixed-Learning Environment
As ӰƵ returns to a school year that resembles pre-pandemic times, First Star ӰƵ Academy has begun to imagine new programs. The Academy is a free, comprehensive four-year college access program for youth in foster care. The program engages a cohort of up to 30 students in a variety of learning opportunities, including academic support, career exploration, social and cultural activities and more.

Roseann "Chic" Canfora, Ph.D., joined the School of Media and Journalism as a Professional-in-Residence this fall. She was also a student at ӰƵ, starting in 1968, and is a survivor of the May 4, 1970, shootings.
‘Kent Skates’ Glides Its Way Into Downtown Kent
The Kent and ӰƵ communities can head downtown to go ice skating starting Nov. 20, courtesy of Kent Skates presented by AMETEK. This special attraction has been created through a partnership between the city of Kent, the ӰƵ Hotel and Conference Center, the Kent Area Chamber of Commerce, Main Street Kent and ӰƵ.
ӰƵ Trumbull’s Care Closet Opens Allowing Students Easy Access to Various Necessities
Students at ӰƵ Trumbull who are in need of food, personal items and clothing will now have more support from the university following Trumbull’s Care Closet official opening on Oct. 18. Trumbull’s Care Closet was created by the 2020-2021 Undergraduate Student Government (USG) and is set up as a fund that faculty, staff and the community can donate to. It’s goal is to provide necessities for students who can’t afford them.

‘Vision of a Village’ Community Meeting on Oct. 27 Will Discuss New Sustainable Community to Be Built in Kent
Representatives from ӰƵ and the city of Kent will hold a community meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 27, called “A Vision of a Village” to share information and answer questions about a new residential complex designed to integrate the city of Kent and ӰƵ, physically and programmatically.
ӰƵ Alum Featured in Akron Beacon Journal Celebrating 50th Anniversary of Art Gallery
ӰƵ alumnus Don Drumm, ‘86, was featured in the Akron Beacon Journal for celebrating the 50th anniversary of Don Drumm Studios and Gallery. Using sand-cast aluminum to create his art, he has decades of experience using a foundry to create his artistic visions.
Free Ice Skating coming to Downtown Kent
Kent Skates will be a new, outdoor ice skating rink that will be free and open to the public. It will be open from Nov. 20 through Feb. 28. Use of the rink will be free, along with free skate rental.
